Review Summer 2005
We just took the kids to the fall fair and sadly as it is, summer is coming to an end.
A very inspiring summer it was, with beautiful, sunny, hot and windy days on end.
If anyone knows how much us “Northern ( German ) Canadian’s know, how much we appreciate every hot sunny day during summer, can imagine how I feel right now.
Way to soon our beautiful lakes, which are still warm enough to swim in and surf on of course, will freeze over and then…..no I’m not talking about waxing my skies yet, but there is a certain amount of melancholia inside of me right now, thinking, that a summer so beautiful and exciting it has been, will come to an end, and that’s why it makes me feel like putting a little summary together of all the great times we spend together and to let my family and friends overseas know, what we have been up to and why I have not been writing home as much as I should and really like too! ( Sorry folks! )
It all started on April 16th., when Brad, Bruce and me went out for our very first sail, on a still partly frozen lake. I fell of the board as soon as I got on my brand new windsurf gear, only because Woody pushed me. Even “they” tried to convince me, with digital pictures taken at the time, that there was no foul play in place, I know, I was pushed, and I know, what you can do in Photo shop ( Big Al ?)

First road trip was to Thunder Bay to a very fun organized regatta on Mission Marsh.
Paul and Brad captured the big trophies and it was fun meeting more crazy people about Windsurfing.

The 2nd. Moose regatta was an incredible hit, due to friends traveling as far as Iowa, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout. A great organized event from Brad and a wonderful memory of a sauna night on one of the most beautiful lakes. Ghost Lake!
Thanks to Jeff and Tina. Also Tina's birthday!!

Mom’s 70th. Birthday still brings a tear to my eyes. She is my living inspiration for love, will power and most of all positive thinking at all times.

Our annual camping trip started out with a crazy Tornado touch down, and everybody who knows Brad, knows how you still can have the greatest time, even if the trees are snapping all around you. Just sit in the back of a van, with of course a few beer's!

Surfing, surfing, surfing. Finally it warmed up enough for Shan to get on her board and she got hooked and hooked in very quick. Another Windsurf star is born!

Brad's no wind solution!

Lisa my " Cover Girl" at work, when the wind was blowing hard, and I had to step out for a minute! I just love her!!!

Another” first” was an awesome party at our friends “The Kuzy’s”. Leanne and Don
set up an incredible Volleyball court in their back yard. If you ever need some hints on how to throw together a party for all ages, ask the Kuzy’s!!

I just love this picture of Thomas and Jeremy. Both their Dad's have been friends since they were that age.

The Madeline Island trip was an unforgettable highlight of summer 2005. We met up with our windsurf friends and from now on an imaginary bubble will follow me at all times, telling me that the fragile moments in life can be the greatest source of strength.
Ask me about my Lake Superior Bubble story…maybe you will read about it in a book someday.

Our camping trip to Sandbar Park was a chilly one this year, but an amazing adrenaline rush for all us wind surfers. With 60kmh gusts, Rick our natural super athlete set the speed record for all the windsurfer’s with a stunning 50.3 kmh. The talks by the camp fire and the starry nights are always something to look so much forward too! Easy summer living at it’s best!

Now the last days of August have arrived, luckily the wind is still blowing from the South and we are hoping for those warm, late summer days, before “ Frederic”
has to start collecting all the warm memories from an awesome summer.
I feel pretty lucky and fortunate right now, that I was able to have so much fun with my family, kids and friends this summer and know I will make it through another long winter with all those great memories!I wish all my dear " Deutschies" would be able to share those awesome Canadian summers with us! Until soon!

I know - but when it is 9 degrees outside and a bit rainy, it feels like summer is almost over!

Margot you have a wonderful way with words and a camera. Everyone should see life through your lens! It's been a great summer let's hope we have a toasty winter sitting together by warm fires drinking cold beer!

Great post Margot! I love all the pictures. I'm going to grab a few for my collection.
I was bummed here when it hit August 1st. I said to Allen, "Aw... only 1 month of summer left."
He said, "No, not down here, it'll be warm for a while!"
"How long?" I asked....
"You'll be windsurfing in October" he said.
Sweet.

Surfing in October sounds great. Brad and Strat's final last surf was on November 11th. last year. When I was in Germany.
